THE STORY OF NOGENRE

BIO

Blending the styling sounds of synth Pop, R&B, Afro Beats and Rock, No Genre is more than an artist; he is an innovative visionary who has a pulse on music that  is immeasurable. Storied with a familial music background that showcases the  many facets of his artistry, his musical journey began at the age of 13 as he  mirrored the melodic likings of his Father, Claydes Smith, founding member of  the group Kool and the Gang. As No Genre’s creative appetite grew, he started writing and arranging songs as  an outlet to release anger and stress due to his troubled upbringing under the pseudonym J Mello. By 2011, J Mello underwent a mental and spiritual metamorphosis to which he changed his name to No Genre, which speaks to his ability to blend different  genres of music, creating a style and sound all of its own. Now fully realized in his talents, he is flourishing in the music world, with new songs, albums, and merchandise available. He dedicates himself to his craft and is constantly releasing new art.

“When creating music, I try to bring together Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, Afro Beats and Rock because I love them all equally. I like to call it melodic rock!  But you can call it good music!”

Through it all, No Genre has emerged through the fray and continues to prove  himself as a creative that refuses to be categorized. And why should he be?
